Dear Mr. Grandjean:

\JIt has been a long time since we have corresponded.

As you will see from the enclosed write-up, my old checker program has
been challenged and beated by another checker program at Duke University.
You may be interested in the results.  You might also be willing to
comment on the games of perhaps even get your current authority in this
field, if indeed it is not you, to comment.  It is my belief that Black
lost in the first game primarily because of a single bad early move and
that there is still some hopes for White in the second game, but this is
only the opinion of a rank amateur.

This challenge has caused me to get my old program into running order
after a lapse of 6 or 7 years and I may do a little more work on it.. In
this connection, I would very much like to have Hanson's (or was it
Hansen) current address.  As you may remember, he had helped me at one
time but he has moved and I have lost all contact with him.  I trust that
he is still active in checkers.

I trust that this finds you and your family in good health.  We are still
well and I am still working full time at Stanford.  We have moved into a
retirement community where Bernice no longer has to cook and I have less
house maintenance work to do but otherwise we continue as always.\.
